Can you ship a canoe?

We ship canoes all the time. We use our preffered shipping partner, KAS Transport, to help deliver your boat. They specialize in shipping small watercraft and have decades of experience. We think they’re the best in te business. Feel free to reach out to them directly for quote [email protected] or contact us with any questions.

Our goal is to get you into a canoe that you love. We encourage paddlers to come try our canoes as many times as they need to have confidence that are ordering the right boat for them. Come to one of our demo nights or make an appointment using the bottom located at the top right of every page to schedule a test paddle.

The good news is that you’re in for a pleasant surprise. We think that you’ll find paddling a canoe more nuanced and engaging. You’ll also have more room for gear. If you’re hesitant to try to adjust to a traditional canoe seat or a single blade paddle, you should try one of our pack canoes which are paddled with a double blade paddle like a kayak. Check out the Mayfly Pack and the Nessmuk family.

We build all of our canoes to order and we make sure that they’re done right. The lead time for an order depends on several factors but usually falls around 4-6 weeks.

When it comes to choosing a canoe, we’re here to help. We make canoes that fit all types of paddlers and all types of water so we can help you find your canoe. We recommend coming down for a test paddle to try out the canoes. If that isn’t possible feel free to give us a call and to visit our buying guide which helps walk throughout the process.

The wood on your canoe should last a very very long time without being too much trouble. You should hop over to our care/maintenance page where we have some in depth tips. In summary, we recommend that you try to keep it clean and wipe some oil on it occasionally. It also helps to store it out of the elements when you’re not paddling.

You should hop over to our care/maintenance page where we have in depth advice. To sum it up, we love when our canoes can be stored inside out of the elements. If that’s not possible a cover or tarp can help but try to make sure to give your canoe some room to allow for airflow.

Aside from being quite handsome, the slots in our rails serve a few purposes. They save some weight by making the gunwales lighter. They allow water to drain out of the canoe when it’s turned upside down. You can also use the slots as attachment points to lash down gear.

We think that you should paddle your canoe however you want. Kneeling in a canoe can often provide you the most control over your boat but it isn’t for everyone. We can set up your paddling station to accommodate you by helping you find the best seat design and height for your preferred position. We find that paddlers that sit often prefer lower seat heights and often like more contour in their seat.

Our team has the experience and materials to repair most types of canoes. If your boat needs some fixing or even just a facelift let us know. It’s often useful if you can send over some pictures of the damage and any model information you have.

Don’t worry. One of the best things about the way we build our canoes is that they can almost always be repaired. Send us over a couple of pictures as well as the serial # from your canoe and we can start there.

Scratches happen and they usually aren’t a big deal. Minor scuffs in the gel coat show up as white colored scratches. These are nothing to worry about because they don’t compromise the boat in any meaningful way. We usually encourage paddlers to view them as something that gives their caoe character. Each scratch tells a story. If you really do serious damage you will start to see wear in the kevlar or carbon layer of your boat that is underneath the gel coat. If you think that’s the case, send us over a picture and we can help.
